Open source is not a free raw material. Behind every framework, calculation library and standard our tools rely on are people and communities who maintain it. Without them there is no Open PDF Studio, no Open CAD Studio, no SuperCloud.
That is why a share of what OpenAEC receives flows back to the projects we build on — through donations, sponsorship and contributions in code. What we open up we do not keep to ourselves, and what we use we do not let wither.
Give back, not just take
Whoever builds on open source should contribute to maintaining it.
Safeguard sovereignty
Healthy upstream projects keep us independent of vendor lock-in.
Open standards first
We invest in the open standards that move the whole sector forward.
BIM & open standards
buildingSMART / IFC
The open IFC standard on which our entire model ecosystem (IFCX, IFC 4.3) rests. The basis for exchange without closed formats.
Visit project →IfcOpenShell
The open toolkit that makes IFC files readable and editable across the whole open-source AEC world — including ours.
Visit project →Bonsai (BlenderBIM)
Native IFC authoring in Blender. One of the strongest proofs that full open BIM is possible — and an inspiration for our own work.
Visit project →FreeCAD
The community's open parametric CAD foundation, the source of much of the expertise in our ecosystem.
Visit project →Desktop & language
Tauri
The lightweight, secure desktop runtime under nearly all our tools. One codebase for Windows, macOS, Linux — and the browser.
Visit project →Rust
The memory-safe language our calculation cores are written in. Speed and reliability as a foundation.
Visit project →SolidJS
The reactive UI framework behind Open PDF Studio among others — blazing fast and fine-grained.
Visit project →PDF & graphics engines
PDFium & PDF.js
The open PDF rendering engines that put technical drawings and dossiers on screen instantly in Open PDF Studio.
Visit project →wgpu & iced
GPU-accelerated rendering and UI in Rust — the foundation under the smooth 2D/3D display of Open CAD Studio.
Visit project →Speech, AI & cloud
Whisper
The open speech model that enables local, offline transcription in Open Speech Studio — no cloud, no subscription.
Visit project →Piper
Fast, fully local text-to-speech with Dutch and English voices in Open Speech Studio.
Visit project →Nextcloud
The open, self-hosted cloud foundation under OpenAEC SuperCloud — storage and collaboration without dependence on big tech.
