The OpenAEC SuperCloud comes from an IT company rooted in the daily practice of an engineering firm. We build the tools the construction industry needs every day, and make them open to everyone.
How it started

3BM
3BM is founded in Zwijndrecht and grows into a partnership of structural and building engineering firms.

2019
3BM Labs
Within 3BM, 3BM Labs is born with a radical goal: everything open source. The first open tools for construction are created there, such as building.py and GIS2BIM.

Jan 2026
Impertio Studio BV
On 1 January 2026 Impertio Studio BV is founded in Dordrecht: an IT company that grew out of 3BM Labs.

OpenAEC Studio BV
On 1 July 2026 a major investor comes on board and the IT company continues as OpenAEC Studio BV. It provides the services around the open tools: hosting, implementation, custom work and support.

A foundation in formation will safeguard the open-source tools for the long term, independent of commercial interests.
