Frequently asked questions

Questions about the SuperCloud

Below are the answers to what we hear most often.

What is IFCX?

IFCX is the open data language shared by all OpenAEC apps. It builds on IFC, the open standard for building models, and adds 2D drawings, GIS, calculations and annotations. Every app works on the same model, so nothing needs to be converted.

What will it cost?

You build your subscription from building blocks, per user per month. It includes hosting in Europe, encryption with your own key and backups; you choose the service level yourself. Apps add a fixed contribution to ongoing development. We publish how prices are built up and review them every six months.

Is there a free version?

Yes. With a free personal account you can use the browser tools, with a small amount of storage. A business environment starts after the first payment and can be cancelled monthly.

Where is my data stored?

In a data centre in the European Union, in a private environment per customer that is encrypted with its own key. Backups are kept in a second EU region.

Can I take just one component?

Yes. For example, you can use only OpenAEC Storage to share and send files, or only the browser tools, without a full business environment.

Can it run on our own servers?

Yes. All apps are open source and can also run on-premises, in your own server room or with your own hosting provider. OpenAEC Studio BV helps with installation, management and updates.

Can we bring our current files and administration?

Yes. OpenAEC Studio BV guides the move away from closed software: email, files and administration. After signing up, you indicate that you would like help with the switch.

Does it work with our partners' files?

The apps work with common open formats, such as IFC for building models, DWG and DXF for drawings, and PDF. Each app page shows what that app can do.

What happens if we want to stop?

You can export everything at any time. After cancelling you have 30 days of read-only access to retrieve everything; then your environment is frozen and finally deleted, with a certificate of deletion.

Is all software really open source?

OpenAEC's own tools and the third-party apps are open source. Some of our tools are still in a private repository while we work on them; their app page then says 'Will be made public'. For the other apps you will find a link to the source code.

What is the difference between the OpenAEC Foundation and OpenAEC Studio BV?

The OpenAEC Foundation develops and coordinates the open-source software. OpenAEC Studio BV offers the SuperCloud and provides services such as implementation, migration, support and custom development.
